Clad Metal
Clad Metal: Cu/Al/Cu, Ag/Cu and Custom Layups
Clad metal is sheet or strip in which two or more different metals are permanently bonded in layers, so each face can do a different job and the expensive metal goes only where it is needed. VAN INTERTRADE supplies Cu/Al/Cu, Ag/Cu and custom layups to customer drawings.

The point of cladding is designing properties layer by layer: copper faces for joining and soldering, an aluminium core to cut weight and cost, or a thin silver layer only where contact happens instead of a solid silver part.
Types and materials
- Cu/Al/Cu (copper/aluminium/copper)
- Copper on both faces over an aluminium core: lighter and cheaper than solid copper while still joining and soldering like copper.
- Ag/Cu (silver/copper)
- A silver layer on a copper base, putting silver only on the contact surface to cut the silver content of the part.
- Custom layups
- Metals, layer order and thickness ratio set to your drawing. Send the details for a feasibility check and quotation.
Typical applications
- Busbars and battery connectors
- Electrical contacts with reduced silver
- Heat-spreading parts

Frequently asked questions
- What is clad metal?
- Clad metal is material in which two or more different metals are permanently bonded in layers, combining their properties in one sheet or strip.
- Why choose Cu/Al/Cu over solid copper?
- The aluminium core makes the part lighter and uses less copper, while the copper faces still join and solder as before.
- What is the price of clad metal?
- Prices for clad metal are quoted per enquiry, because they depend on the grade, the form (rod, plate, strip and so on), the size and the quantity. Send those details through the quote form, by phone on 02-728-0150 or on LINE @vanintertrade, and we will quote.
